Cat getting a vaccine Protect Your Furry Family Member with Pet Vaccinations from Our Veterinarian Near You

As pet parents, we all want our animals to live long, healthy, and happy lives. One of the most effective ways to ensure your pet’s well-being is through regular vaccinations. At Avenida Animal Hospital in San Clemente, CA, we are here to guide you through the importance of vaccinations and how they protect your pets, your family, and your community.

Why Vaccinations Matter

Vaccinations are a cornerstone of preventive care. They protect your pets from serious, sometimes life-threatening diseases, such as rabies, distemper, and parvovirus. These diseases can spread quickly, especially in areas with active wildlife or high pet populations, making vaccinations essential for both indoor and outdoor pets.

But vaccinations do more than just protect your pet, they also safeguard other animals and even humans. For example, rabies vaccinations prevent the spread of this untreatable, fatal disease. Many vaccinations, like rabies, are also required by law in most states.

Core vs. Lifestyle Vaccines

Not all pets need the same vaccinations. At Avenida Animal Hospital, we tailor vaccination plans to your pet’s unique needs. Vaccines are generally divided into two categories:

•             Core Vaccines: These are essential for all pets, regardless of their lifestyle. For dogs, this includes rabies and distemper-parvo (DHPP). For cats, core vaccines include rabies and feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, and panleukopenia (FVRCP).

•             Lifestyle Vaccines: These vaccines are recommended based on your pet’s activities and environment. For example, dogs who frequent dog parks or hiking trails may benefit from the Bordetella (kennel cough) or leptospirosis vaccines. Cats who spend time outdoors may need protection against feline leukemia virus (FeLV).

During your pet’s wellness exam, we will discuss its lifestyle and risk factors to create a vaccination schedule that is best for it.

When to Vaccinate Pets

Puppies and kittens should begin their vaccination series as early as 6-8 weeks of age, with boosters every 3-4 weeks until they are about 16 weeks old. Adult pets need regular boosters to maintain immunity. If you have recently adopted a pet and are not sure about its vaccination history, we can help you get it back on track.

A Compassionate Approach to Care

At Avenida Animal Hospital, we understand that vet visits can sometimes be stressful for pets and their owners. That is why we take a compassionate, gentle approach to every appointment. Our goal is to make your pet feel safe and cared for while giving you peace of mind.
